The monthly Talks are open to all, whether member or non-member, but its only £3.00 for entry for members or £5.00 for non-members, and only £10.00 to join for the year. The Talks take place at Waterton Hall, Warwick Square, Carlisle and begin at 7.00 with tea/coffee and a biscuit.
Tuesday 20 November 2018: Carlisle Castle’s Spectacular History
Max Loth-Hill, a young local historian, presents an intriguing talk about the spectacular history of Carlisle Castle, which is believed to be the most besieged castle in England. We will surely learn some grim tales from Carlisle’s murky past!
Tuesday 22nd January 2019: Stanwix – David Ramshaw.
David will talk to us about Stanwix these talks about local places have proved to be very popular.
Tuesday 19 February 2019: Cowans Sheldon by Frank Grant.
The inspiring story of the rise of this once world famous engineering firm from Carlisle who built and supplied railway cranes around the globe.
Tuesday 19 March 2019: Longtown by Gordon Routledge.
Gordon will entertain us with stories concerning Longtown, ‘The Olde Border Town’. Established beside an important ford on the River Esk leading into Scotland, at one time the market at Longtown rivalled that of Carlisle.
Tuesday 16 April 2019: Droving by Peter Roebuck.
The story of a once very important but now largely forgotten way of life and a valuable industry that once featured so importantly within Cumbria
