The monthly Talks are open to all, whether member or non-member. Entry is only £3.00 for members or £5.00 for non-members, and only £10.00 to join for the year.
The talks are held at Waterton Hall, Warwick Square, Carlisle. The AGM will commence with refreshments at 6:45pm for the 7:30 talk, the other talks will commence with refreshments at 7:00pm for a 7:30pm talk.
Tuesday 10th September 2019 (AGM) – Church bells and their churches
Ron Evans is the tower captain at Carlisle Cathedral and also the Bell Advisor for the diocese with responsibility for the 921 bells in churches in Cumbria. He will present an intriguing talk on bells and their churches, their history, the ancient art of English full circle bell ringing, traditional bell casting and tuning and much more.
Tuesday 15th October 2019 – Uncovering Carlisle’s Textile Revolution
David Ramshaw, author and historian, will recount the fascinating subject of Carlisle’s once vast and sadly now diminished textile industry. This is bound to be thought provoking and will undoubtedly remind everyone of Carlisle’s past industrial glories.
Tuesday 19th November 2019 – The Border Regiment at Gallipoli.
John Mather, committee member, will celebrate Remembrance by recounting the story of the bravery and lives of many of the local soldiers and sailors who served in the disastrous Gallipoli campaign in 1915 in the First World War.
