On 22nd June, Steven Layden, Mayor of Carlisle, officially unveiled the plaque which commemorates the saving of Carlisle Tithe Barn by Carlisle Civic Trust. It is 50 years since the trust was formed to save this amazing structure for the city. It is now a unique, interesting, functional and well used building.
Members of Carlisle Civic Trust, and of St Cuthbert’s Church, heard the Mayor and the Chairman of the Trust explain the significance of saving this wonderful building.
St Cuthbert’s Church have recently been given these excellent photographs by the family of the late Norman Phillips, architect, and the trust thanks them for allowing us access to these.
It is very fitting that Carlisle Civic Trust are holding their 50th celebration in Carlisle Tithe Barn on 17th July 2015.
